How do I choose between ALR and matte white projector screens?

Choose matte white if you have good lighting control (curtains, a dedicated home theater, or you primarily watch at night). Choose ALR if your room has ambient light you cannot fully control - skylights, open-plan spaces, or daytime viewing. ALR screens reject off-axis ambient light to maintain contrast in lit conditions. Matte white delivers better colour accuracy and wider viewing angles in dark rooms.

Fresnel ALR projector screens use concentric ring optics — the same principle as a lighthouse lens — to collect and redirect the projector beam toward the viewing cone while rejecting ambient light from other angles. The TrueThrow Fresnel (FRS) delivers a 1.4 gain, making it the highest-brightness ALR surface in our UST lineup — ideal for very bright rooms or UST projectors with lower lumen output.

Fresnel screens are purpose-built for ultra-short-throw laser TVs and UST projectors placed 10–30 cm from the screen. The Fresnel optic accepts the steep low-angle beam from a UST source and channels it efficiently toward the viewer while the concentric ring structure rejects overhead and side ambient light. The TrueThrow Fresnel achieves up to 130° horizontal viewing angle, suited for wider seating arrangements.
