Measure your room, note ambient light levels, seating distance, and any installation constraints before choosing a screen.
Choose a Screen Type
Fixed Frame for dedicated cinema rooms, Floor Rising for living rooms, Specialty for ALR or outdoor use. Fixed Frame delivers the flattest image; Floor Rising disappears when not in use.
Select Screen Size
Industry standard (THX): screen diagonal = 0.8-1.0x your seating distance. Projector screens should be large — size up, not down.
e.g. 3 m -> ~100 inch · 3.5 m -> ~120 inch · 4 m -> ~130 inch screen.
Configure Fabric
Choose gain (0.60 to 1.40), ambient light rejection (Fresnel or White), and acoustic transparency if needed.

How do I choose the right screen size?
Screen size depends on your projector throw distance and your seating distance. A common rule is to sit at 1.5x to 2.5x the screen width. Use our Screen Finder or contact our team — we will work it out from your room dimensions and projector specs.

What is the difference between an electric and a fixed-frame screen?

Can I install a TrueThrow screen myself?
Yes — all TrueThrow screens are designed for straightforward DIY installation and ship with full instructions, mounting hardware, and a spirit level guide. Fixed-frame screens typically take 30-60 minutes for two people. Installation guides, mounting hardware, and a spirit level guide are all included.

Do I need an ALR/CLR screen, or will Matte White work?
If your room is fully dark when you watch, Matte White gives the most accurate colour for less money. If you watch with lights on or during the day, an ALR/CLR screen matched to your throw type will noticeably outperform it. Use our Screen Finder to get a personalised recommendation.

What screen gain should I look for?
For standard throw projectors in a controlled-light room, gain 1.0–1.1 is the neutral reference — accurate colour and a wide 160° viewing cone. ALR fabrics run at gain 0.8–1.0 and compensate through ambient light rejection rather than brightness. Gain 1.4 is the ceiling within the TrueThrow range (Fresnel UST only). No TrueThrow screen exceeds 1.4, so hotspotting is not a concern. For ALR/CLR screens, gain is less critical than the rejection angle. What projector brightness do I need for a good image?
For a dark room with a 100" screen, 1500-2000 lumens is usually sufficient. Larger screens or rooms with ambient light need 3000+ lumens. Laser projectors rated at 2000 ANSI lumens often look brighter than lamp projectors at the same spec. If unsure, use our Screen Finder and enter your projector model.

How do I know which material is right for my room?
It comes down to three things: your projector throw type (and mounting, if Short Throw), how much ambient light your room has, and how wide your seating area is. Use our Screen Finder to get matched to the right material automatically, or talk to our engineers — free advice, no obligation.

Is a higher gain screen always better?
No — and this is one of the most common buying mistakes. High-gain screens (above 1.4) boost brightness but create a narrow sweet spot and visible hot-spotting at the centre. For most home cinema setups, gain 1.0-1.3 gives a more natural, uniform image. Higher gain only makes sense when you have a low-lumen projector and a narrow, centred seating row.
